 : Software Risk

Software Risk

Software Risk is a complex area that requires input from both a Software Efficiency Audit and traditional Software Asset Management in order to gain a full picture.

On one hand there is the operational risk arising from having non-authorised or even poorly evaluated software installed on your networks. This can manifest itself in the following ways:-

  • risk of attack due to vulnerabilities in unauthorised applications.
  • damage to network resilience / bandwidth resulting from software abuse.
  • risk of conflicts between authorised and non-authorised software.

On the other hand there is the reputational and financial risks that arises from not having the necessary licenses. The financial risk can be largely mitigated by following the recommendations of a Software Efficiency Audit but the reputational risk can only be truly mitigated through applying effective Software Asset Management.
